A Singaporean businessman has been jailed for selling strawberry-flavored milk and coffee to North Korea despite trade sanctions. The price of the product sold was 1 million dollars.

The jailed businessman is Phua Sze He (59). He is a former manager of Pokka International, a Singaporean soft drink company.

A Singapore court sentenced Phua to five weeks in prison last Monday after pleading guilty.

North Korea, the country of Kim Jong-un, is under UN sanctions for conducting nuclear and ballistic missile tests. Singapore suspended trade relations with North Korea in 2017.

Court documents say Fua sold strawberry-flavored milk and coffee to several companies between 2017 and 2018 while working at Pokka International. He knew that the destination of these products was North Korea.

According to court documents, Fua received no commission from product sales. But selling these products helped him meet his monthly sales targets.
